Transcendental meditation making a difference world over

Transcendental from the ancient Vedic tradition continues to be adopted by individuals, corporate including Wall Street for better focus and performance. Transcendental meditation technique helps to avoid distracting thoughts and promote relaxed awareness.

How can Transcendental Meditation help you?

The meditators say that the ordinary thinking process is replaced by pure consciousness. They experience the rest, perfect stillness, order and stability and no mental boundaries are left. Regular meditation helps reduce anxiety, chronic pain, cholesterol, high blood pressure, and fewer visits to the doctor.

When the mind reaches a state where one experiences complete silence, it has transcended to the finest stages of thought. You have reached the state of your true self.

When we get distracted by people and what’s going on in the outer world, the “I” has been lost. But as soon as you bring yourself to the perfect state of pure silence- where you have no thoughts, perceptions or doing, then the attention comes back to “being” one’s true-self.

How to Practice?

Sit in a comfortable position with eyes closed and silently repeat the mantra. Mantra is a sound or a word from Vedic tradition that helps to focus the concentration.

Taking “Ram Naam” mantra and meditating on it silently or chanting with beads is a great way to practice on the beads, others also practice using the sound “om”.

It is best to practice twice a day- early morning and evening, and fix your time in your daily routine so you can unwind, relax and be one with your inner-self.

How it has affected different people including Wall Street?

Tim Burgess a meditator since 2008, finds it to be “one of the most important aspects” of his life.

Comparing mindfulness with transcendental, mindfulness is about self-observance, where as transcendental is about letting go. The mind automatically relaxes once you sit in silence for about 20 minutes. You can repeat a mantra, and eventually reach a point of expansive silence.

Around eight years ago, Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio introduced Transcendental Meditation to his then-735 employees. “I did it because it’s the greatest gift I could give anyone, it brings about equanimity, creativity and peace”.
