Laugh when you feel like crying, when you are depressed or Stressed out

Many times people indulge in laughter to manage stress and cope with problems of life or find relief from depression and anxiety.  Laughter elevates the state of a person from the stresses and pains of life.

-Dr. Ved at Sanjeevani Kaya Shodhan Sansthan

Scientifically, it is known that laughter is extremely beneficial. The blood flow increases by 50 percent, which is the reason that many people turn red when they laugh so hard.

Laughter makes the blood pressure normal:

Laughter helps to normalize the blood pressure. The heart rate and pressure increase when one laughs and decreases after the laughter.  This is because the cardiovascular system dilates at this time.

Laughter helps to fight diseases:

Laughter helps to fight diseases as it boosts the production of gamma interferon, B cells and T cells, and blood platelets. This, in turn, boosts up the immune system and in reality prevents it from shutting down when you laugh.

Laughter releases the Right hormones and switches off the unfavorable Ones:

The adrenaline hormone is an activator and is released in the state of fear or anxiety or even during exercises. This is the reason for the “fight or flight” reaction. Laughing switches off the stress hormones. After the threat goes away, it takes approximately 20 to 60 minutes for the body to get back to the normal state. The fight of flight makes the body either fight or run away from the threat.

Fake laughter Works like Real Laughter:

Fake laughter is as good as real laughter as the body can not differentiate between the two. The neurotransmitters send the same signal whether it is fake or real laughter and the same hormones are activated.
However, the fake laughter does turn into real laughter, when after 45 to 90 minutes, releases of flood of hormones and neurotransmitters occur.

Who should keep away from Laughter Therapy?

Laughter can create physical strain, so pregnant women are advised to not to take the therapy. Also, those who have recently undergone surgery, or people with hernia, must avoid laughter therapy. Those suffering from flu should refrain from the therapy as others might get it.
